Date: 2013-May-17 Review by Dan P
It seems many golf courses take liberties with the use of the term "links". When the rough draft of this review was written the Sunset Ridge Golf Club was named "The Links at Sunset Ridge". The past week when I checked in on the golf course website I noticed that their name had changed. Good call.
Although not a difficult course with respect to hazards and tightness of fairway; this course has exceptional greens. The speed and finicky contours always had you guessing your line. Holes 10 and 17 share a large green but I would rarely think being on the wrong tier for either hole will occur.
The 16th hole, a shorter par 4, has a tricky approach shot over a gully to a lower green. The yardage is difficult to determine and you'll have to be close to the gully to see the pin placement.
Hole #7 is a monster par 5 at 651 yards from the tips and almost 500 yards from the front tees.
Probably the only hole where water can come in to play is #11. You'll need to choose your club wisely off the tee.
The clubhouse at Sunset Ridge is deceptive from the outside with respect to size. Inside the decor is quite pleasant and there is plenty of space for a large gathering or tournament. We completed our round at dinner time and the clubhouse was near capacity.
The price for a round of golf was exceptional and I question why this kind of pricing can't be found in Canada. I don't know whether it's our tax system, climate, salaries, or combined factors but I'd sure like to know.
Sunset Ridge Golf Club is a recommended for the greens alone.
